SLURRED LENNON COVER SELLS FOR $30,000
Date: Dec. 22, 2008 | Category: Music News

A recording of a supposedly drunk JOHN LENNON singing a cover version of a LLOYD PRICE song sold for $30,000 (GBP20,200) at an auction in Los Angeles on Sunday (21Dec08).

The six-minute version of Price's hit Just Because was recorded in 1973, during a time when Lennon was separated from Yoko Ono on what he later referred to as his "Lost Weekend".

The rare tape, which has never before been heard by the public, begins with Lennon slurring: "I wanna take all them new singers, Carol and the other one with the nipples, I wanna take 'em and hold 'em tight."

Lennon later re-recorded the song and released it on his 1975 album, Rock 'n' Roll.
