Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey has refused to go to war-torn Iraq to tour his play THE SOLIDER'S TALE - because it's far too dangerous.

The 46-year-old AMERICAN BEAUTY star, who has lived in London for the last two years, has made it clear he's not willing to risk his life for his art.

When asked if he had booked his ticket he said, "Are you out of your mind? I think I'll be staying put on UK soil, thank you."

The play's director ANDREW STEGGAL, has been sent out to Baghdad, decked out in full body-armour and accompanied by a team of guards to recruit local actors for the Iraq production.

Spacey adds, "As far as I know, this is the first time anyone has tried to do this sort of thing.

"Obviously the situation there is a little unstable right now, but Andrew is still hoping to take the play out to Iraq soon."
